When a wino plans a Nashville Bachelorette…

When a wino plans a Nashville bachelorette, you know she’s going to put in a wine and cheese tasting! And I’m so glad I did! This past weekend was my friend’s Bachelorette weekend, and we had a wonderful time at Grinder’s Switch Winery. Its Nashville location is in Marathon Village which is an awesome warehouse are full of cool shops (and next door to the Jack Daniels general store). The vineyard is actually located near Centreville, TN and it’s family owned and operated. If I’m ever back in the area I definitely want to visit!

Our tasting was at 5pm which was perfect because it was super private, as all the stores around closed right at 5. We had the place to ourselves! I’m bummed I didn't take more pictures, I was so in the moment, but the warehouse has a lot of character, as did the Grinder’s Switch location. We did the wine and cheese paring option for our private tasting, and tasted the following wines:

  • 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon: this one was my absolute favorite and definitely not your typical cab (I bought two bottles of it). It was bold, with an excellent balance of dark fruits and the smoky, smooth oaky finish! It’s a very complex one that I want to break down more later once it gets to me, but absolutely fabulous.

  • 2018 Colleytown: this one was a red blend of the Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah! I’m not usually a fan of the black tea and pepper flavors in Syrah, but it was really cool to see on this blend because it toned down the boldness of dark, jammy fruits on cab and really brought the pepper notes forward.

  • 2020 Vidal Blanc: this one was a very crip and clean Vidal, with strong grapefruit notes and a slight buttery finish. It felt different to me than the Vidals I’ve had in Virginia, so I bought this one too to break it down more!

  • 2019 Ivory Mist: this was an off-dry wine from the Cayuga grape, which I don’t think I’ve ever had before. They called it a “champagne without bubbles” and it was very easy to drink!

  • 2020 Blondy: a white Moscato/ Cayuga blend

  • 2019 Anole: a red Muscadine/ Cayuga blend

  • Blackberry Express: a sweet blackberry wine blend

  • Razzbury: a sweet blend with a raspberry punch

All of the wines were paired with local cheeses, except the last 4 dessert wines which were paired with their appropriate, sweet companions. I highly recommend this activity for any groups visiting Nashville!!

Other fun activities we did for my friend Ashton’s Nash Bash:

  • Lunch at Hattie B’s (my favorite meal in Nashville was their Hot Chicken sandwich)

  • Walked around music row and stopped by a coffee shop and a bar as we explored

  • Honky Tonk Bus tour

  • Dinner at Bartaco (great tacos, but it’s a hot spot so expect a long-wait. I personally recommend takeout! Pork belly tacos are a huge hit)

  • Brunch at Hampton Social (be ready to party if you sit on their rooftop!)

  • Goat yoga at Shenanigoats

  • Dinner at Amerigo Italian Restaurant (I had the chicken marsala and it was pretty good!)

  • Checked out the Broadway night scene (it’s currently crazy… #NashVegas)

  • Listened to live music at Wildhorse Saloon off Broadway (it was a great spot we found that was socially distanced and super clean. Score!)

  • Goodbye brunch at Milk & Honey in the Gulch area

  • Last minute stop at Uncommon James because DUH, it’s Kristin Cavallari’s jewelry shop!

We loved our Airbnb, which was in a great walkable location! I can’t wait to take my fiancé to Nashville and explore even more!
